Renovate, Restore, Renew

This new five-building complex includes buildings for Family Life, Youth, a Worship Chapel, as well as other ministries. Built in 1937, the existing sanctuary was renovated to provide space for their growing congregation, as well as state-of-the-art sound, lighting, and audio-visual systems. We designed the new single story metal stud shear wall and steel moment frame worship building and a 2-story masonry shear wall youth center building. The complex curved roof of the contemporary worship space, along with the use of long-span glulam trusses that span in two directions make this project unique, as well as challenging. The addition to the worship space was designed to incorporate the existing Sanctuary building. This meant the new roof would be built above the existing roof with minimal loads transferred to the existing building. Design of glulam trusses was a challenge since the trusses were to be exposed over the worship area with an acoustical system hung off the trusses. The lateral design required special consideration due to its proximity to the Raymond Fault. The remodeling and conversion of the Church took place in three phases.
