Leaps Ahead in High-Performance Environments Engineered for Learning

FROG stands for Flexible Response to Ongoing Growth, and is the brainchild of the architectural firm MKThink. The modular classroom prototype delivers schools and other institutions a quick-to-deploy, high-performance, reasonably priced middle ground between permanent construction and modular trailers.

FROG offers a range of layouts to accommodate the diverse needs of today’s educational institutions from K-12 all the way to the university level. The modular system has three integrated parts: the Shed, the Sled, and the Power Pack. These can be configured to create labs, auditoriums, and a variety of other classroom configurations. This offers customizable floorplans that boast some great sustainable features such as low or no-VOC carpet tiles, high ceilings and abundant natural light, plenum floors for improved ventilation and thermal environment, and expertly-engineered building frames that exceed California seismic codes.

We developed a structural system consisting of steel beam and columns, diagonally braced metal deck roof diaphragms and steel braced frames to meet strict seismic criterion while not disturbing the unique characteristics of the units or there modular adaptability. Concrete grade beams support the gravity and lateral loads at the foundation level. This ensures the safety of occupants in the event of an earthquake, and assures a quick return to operations after an earthquake.
