Revitalizing the Heart of the Campus
We were eager to be a part of the largest renovation of any building in WSU history. Known as the CUB and the heart of the campus, this building was last renovated in 1970. We provided the structural engineering for all aspects of the renovation that also included an advanced seismic evaluation that minimized the extent of seismic strengthening required for this 240,000 square foot student union building. The project team is charged with technologically-enhancing the CUB Auditorium as meeting space for speakers, movies and classes; expanding the CUB Ballroom to provide additional opportunities for events and conferences; providing wired and wireless internet in increased student lounge areas on all levels; improving food services like the national brands; adding late-night entertainment venues for increased student programming opportunities; and creating greater student meeting space. Scheduled to open August 2008, the project is on schedule and on budget. This state-of-the-art building is expected to last the university and its growing student population for another 50 years.
