Engineers overcome desert’s challenges in Coachella Valley foundation pour
Six hundred truckloads of cement made their way through the desert heat one evening to take part in a record-breaking concrete pour of a mat slab foundation designed by Degenkolb Engineers, the structural engineering firm for the new Walter and Leonore Annenberg Pavilion. The 15-hour, overnight pour represents the largest in Coachella Valley history. To ensure complete structural integrity of the new pavilion, strict coordination among the 600 truckloads and 20 inspectors on site was made to comply with the precise specifications.
