Jim Malley Receives Highest Professional Honor from State Association of Structural Engineers

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov 05, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) — James O. Malley, a San Francisco-based structural engineer whose professional achievements have greatly advanced the seismic safety of commercial buildings, universities and hospitals throughout California, has been named a 2007 FELLOW of the Structural Engineers Association of California. This honor represents SEAOC’s highest form of recognition and is reserved for those structural engineers who make outstanding contributions to the profession.

In naming Malley for this award, SEAOC cited his contribution to the seismic code development for steel structures following the Northridge Earthquake in 1994. As the Project Director for Topical Investigations for the SAC Steel Program, Malley was responsible for data collection as well as analytical and testing investigations following the earthquake. The goal was to determine why so many steel buildings were damaged. Malley has written more than fifty technical papers on the subject.
