Careers: Meet Our People
Gina Sandoval
LIFE/CULTURE AT DEGENKOLB:
Our culture is open, flexible, fun, but hard-working. We know how to work hard and play hard too. We are all very diverse in our backgrounds and the way that we approach different engineering challenges in creative ways which brings value to each project that we do.
YOUR CAREER:
Degenkolb encourages life-long learning so that everyone is constantly learning the latest analysis techniques, which brings value to every project that we undertake. We all get to grow as engineers and leaders within the firm by being able to attend meetings and conferences and networking with our counterparts at other firms. Being able to go to the SEAOC conventions has been a great learning opportunity for me in both the networking and technical aspects.
YOUR PASSIONS:
It is very important for me to be able to invest in the company that I work for. As a future leader of the firm, there is incentive for me to perform on every project that I undertake and to try to encourage others to “get on the bus” as Chris likes to say so that we are all striving for the success of the firm with each project and each client.
I like my job and I enjoy the work that I do. I like the people with whom I work with and I take pride my work. I enjoy working with the client and with the contractor to get the job done and done well. I like to travel and I like to learn new things. I am an avid cook and love to try new reciples. I learned to quilt and three of us got together and made 2 quilts for one of our co-workers who was expecting twins. My husband and I tried ATVing for the first time and ATV’d around Kaui on our honeymoon. We have been to Italy, Japan, Hawaii and are on our way to Belize in December. We are learning to scuba dive so that we can dive and see the reef in Belize. I love to learn new things and constantly try new hobbies. We have a puppy (he is actually almost 2 year old now) that we are constantly training. My current hobby is bowling. My all time best score is 145.
ON THE JOB:
One of my best stories on the job is two women engineers and me getting together after work for about 3 months to work on the baby quilts for Mae who was expecting twins. These quilts were a labor of love and very fun to work on.
