Careers: Meet Our People
Jennifer Eggers
Life/Culture at Degenkolb:
How would you describe the culture at Degenkolb?
The culture here is very casual yet professional. We get to have a flexible work schedule that works with my lifestyle. The people here are also very team oriented. There are plenty of people ready to help you out when you are dealing with new issues.
Why did you choose Degenkolb?
I chose Degenkolb because of the reputation. I wanted to learn from and work with some of the best engineers in the structural engineering industry.
Your Career:
What professional activities have been the most meaningful to you?
Working with SEAONC and Rebuilding Together have been most meaningful to me. Rebuilding Together is a non-profit volunteer organization that restores community centers, homes and more. Being able to get together with other engineers to use our knowledge of building materials and construction to help others is a wonderfully rewarding opportunity for hands-on experience.
Why have you stayed at Degenkolb?
One reason I have stayed at Degenkolb is because of the people. We have such a wide diversity of people here with many different interests outside of engineering. We have a lot of fun together!
Your Passions:
What do you do for fun?
I love doing things outdoors…hiking, camping, anything to enjoy time with my husband and dog! I’m also a clogger. I dance in a performance group and have a lot of fun doing that!
What’s the best thing about being an engineer or your job?
The best thing about being an engineer for me is making people happy by solving their problems in an efficient way while taking all of their concerns into consideration.
On the Job:
Being a female in engineering, you still come across men in the industry that do not see women engineers everyday. I can remember on more than one occasion getting a “certain” look when arriving at a job site as a woman and getting a different look when I leave as an engineer. I enjoy getting the chance to change people’s minds about women in the industry. I have certainly never received that look at Degenkolb and have always been supported here, especially when it comes to dealing with others that are not as supportive.
