Heading to Africa in Limo
Hello Everyone:
Thought I would share some details of my upcoming trip - some of you may already know that I’m taking part in the 2008 Plymouth Bamako Challenge, a 4,000 mile car rally from London to Timbuktu, Mali (that’s in Africa for the geographically challenged) with the principle aim of helping charitable causes while also having a little on and off-road fun through ancient European capitals, Moroccan Kasbahs and Saharan sand dunes.
For an idea of the terrain we’ll be covering check this out.
I leave January 7th, and it’s about a 4 week trip - I guess this qualifies under the “Knew he wanted time to play.” recruiting strategy…..
Just to keep it interesting, I’ll be undertaking this motoring adventure in a 1988 Town Car 5′ Stretch Limousine, bought in Las Vegas earlier this year and laboriously outfitted over the past 6 months with the finest auto parts one can find at the Oakland Pick N Pull. Our limo is now a dune jumping, camel racing, finely tuned, desert machine - sort of. Once we arrive, the vehicle is donated, auctioned, and the proceeds benefit a variety of local infrastructure and school projects in Bamako.
Just kidding about that last youtube clip, these are real though.
If you care to track our progress, you can do so at the team website www.limotoafrica.org
We are also raising money directly for the World Computer Exchange, an organization that sends surplus computers to schools to many 3rd world countries, in our case high schools in Bamako. For those inclined to donate to, you can do so on the website on the right hand side of the Please Donate tab - your donation will supplement the one already generously provided by Degenkolb.
For those I won’t see tomorrow, have a happy holidays, and I’ll see you in 2008 !
Cheers
Mark Sinclair
