Degenkolb Softball Game #1

Team Degenkolb rolled into league play last night with a 13-10 victory over EBMUD, starting the season with a 1-0 record in league play.

Team veterans Gordy Wray, Erik Kneer, and Shane Gross anchored the squad, scoring 8 of the 13 runs and displaying impressive skill in the field.

Top honors, however, went to rookie standout Taka Yokoyama, whose flair at 2nd base and utter disregard for momentum kept everyone smiling.

Other new faces included SF West intern John Sticklen, who rose to the challenge of being a backstop at 1st base, Melissa Vickery sharing honors at Rover, Luke Ruggeri calling balls and strikes behind the plate, Kyle Chatman chasing gappers in right field, and Tim Nelson hucking rocks at John from 3rd base.

Perennial spectator Uchenna Okoye even got into the action, albeit behind the plate for EMBUD after their catcher departed.

And not to be missed, the most improved player on the squad, Jennifer ‘Maui’ Baylson, scored the first run of a 4-run 2-out rally in the 6th that sealed the victory.

Beers and grub were enjoyed following the game, celebrating the season’s first victory and the coach’s thirty-third birthday.

Next game: Tuesday, July 22 vs. Toft, deNevers, and Lee at Lowell. Gametime 6:30pm. Everyone is welcome.
