Degenkolb Softball shifts gears in Game 3
July 1, 2009
The Degenkolb Softball Team shifted gears last night, taking on B league colleagues AECOM B at Lowell Hardball Field in Oakland. The AECOM B squad is the less-experienced counterpart to AECOM’s A team.
Degenkolb jumped out to an early lead with 6 runs in the first inning and solid defense in the field. The game was a good opportunity to work a few new faces into the lineup, including Oakland office Intern Lisa Aukeman and recent addition Yu-Ning Chen, as well as returning intern-now-full-time-hire Taka “I bite back” Yokoyama. The trio scored 5 runs and provided welcome additions to the squad. FED Nick Bucci also made an appearance last night, complete with purple socks and happy-gilmore-esque hop-skip-and-a-jump batting style.
By the end of 7 innings, the Degenkolb squad posted somewhere near 25 runs and held the opposing team to only about 6, showing good sportsmanship throughout. The AECOM squad was pretty excited about posting 6 runs, so everyone left the field happy.
On the highlight reel were homeruns by John ‘gentle giant’ Sticklen and Nick ‘wanna be d’anna’ Bucci, as well as solid hussle by Dan “soft hands, shower curtain, soda machine” Wilcoxon. Adam Azofeifa continued his impressive play at third base and moved up into the number 3 spot in the lineup. Tim ‘anyone find an iPod 2 last week’ Nelson posted a perfect 4-for-4 night and Erik “I deserve a better spot in the lineup” Kneer jinxed himself and went 1-for-4.
In the drama department, Sarah Graff took an early bad hop in the cheek, but turned it the other way and went on about a solid game (while husband Robert ’shoulda stretched’ Graff nursed a pulled hamstring and daughter Finley).
Overall, it was a solid showing and everyone enjoyed the warm summer evening. We followed up the game with a round of BP and then headed for Barclays in Oakland, where Finley Graff entertained the crowd with her big brown eyes and infant antics.
Game 4 — Tuesday, July 7th at Lowell vs. Thornton Thomasetti. The Graylsons will be back in the lineup, and there’s roomer of a new hardballer in SF West, so the momentum is building — as always, everyone is welcome to attend.
PS Sorry, no photos this week — photographer Lucie ‘I hope it’s not H1N1′ Fougner was on the one-game DL.

Yeah I know Andrew, I totally jinxed myself. In my defense however, I only asked to hit behind Adam again (before knowing he had been moved up to the 3 spot). After going 2 for 3 last week with 3 RBI’s and a home run (but who’s counting), I thought it was justified.
Next week I will humbly accept any spot in the lineup. Great writeup coach. Keep em coming!

Congrats to the new Graylsons!
