A Full Roster for Softball Game 4
Team Degenkolb fielded 15 players in last night’s contest against Thornton Tomasetti (formerly DASSE) at Lowell Field in Oakland, an indication that mid-season is upon us.
The squad started strong, posting 10 runs through 4 innings and allowing only 9 on defense. The wheels came off the bus in the 5th inning, however, with the hard hitting TT squad posting 7 runs, a deficit the Degenkolb squad ultimately could not overcome. In the end, it was a frustrating 19-14 loss, but was a well played game and good motivation to stay focused through the second half of the season.
Erik ‘EK’ Kneer took home the game ball (in his right hand) after risking life and limb to reach first base and walking away with a severely injured left hand (due mostly to poor footwork of the TT first-baseman). His hand swelled up and forced him, begrudgingly, to sit out the second half of the game.
Strong play continues from Adam “show me your P.E.” Azofeifa, who impressed the opposing defense so considerably, that they questioned his status as a real engineer.
The female half of the squad, under the leadership of team mom Sarah Graff, continues to impress, especially at the plate, wreaking havoc on the opposing defense with solid contact and good hustle.
Team photog Lucie ‘hold on while I change lenses’ Fougner was again on hand to document the key moments, including a nice post-game team shot.
After dusting off, the team retired to Lanesplitters in Oakland for pizza and pitchers, with a toast raised to the Graylsons, just back from their Hawaiian wedding and honeymoon.
Next week: Game 5, Thursday, July 16 versus SGH at Lowell Field.
