The future of West Sacramento, with a hint of the past

Someday, 100 years in the future, a structural engineer looking at renovations to the West Sacramento Community Center, might find a little hint of the past. The City of West Sacramento created a time capsule out of a steel beam that will forever acknowledge the presence of those that contributed to the West Sacramento Multi-Generational Center.

As the last steel beam was ready to be placed atop the LEED Gold facility, the “topping off” ceremony could not be completed without covering the steel beam with the John Hancock’s of those that put in tremendous amounts of time and effort.  The Mayor and City Council, design teams, and even community members attended the ceremony to watch the last beam being placed with their signatures etched in stone…or well…signed by a sharpie.

The West Sacramento Multi-Generational Center has a bright future ahead, providing services of a community center, senior center, and even black box theater.  The signed beam in the facility will forever include those names in the future success of the center.
