Sustainability Committees at Degenkolb

It’s important to keep sustainability in mind both within Degenkolb as a company and within the projects that we take on. That’s why Degenkolb has created both the Internal and External Sustainability committees. The committees have been active for some time.

The External Sustainability committee is dedicated to furthering green technologies and strategies. The aim of the committee is to further sustainable development and its relationship to PBD (performance based engineering) and seismic improvements by educating structural engineers, clients, architects, contractors, and other industry partners. The committee hopes to continue finding innovative solutions that address the challenge of sustainability in structural engineering design practice. Last year, the group created a Degenkolb Primer on Sustainable Design strategies. It’s intended to be a reference for guidelines on building materials, reuse of buildings, and coordination with other disciplines.

The Internal Sustainability committee is aimed at reducing waste and formalizing green policies within Degenkolb’s 6 offices. The committee aims to develop programs and provide guidance and recommendations for environmentally sustainable offices and office practices within the company. Internal Sustainability also plans on teaching the philosophy of economical, social, and environmental sustainability to the company, and providing information for all employees on how they can make their own homes and lives more sustainable.
