UCSF MSB/Moffitt Separation Wins NCSEA Award
Sometimes separation is a good thing. When it comes to the UCSF Medical Sciences Buildings (MSB) and Moffitt Hospital Separation Project, it’s a great thing.
The UCSF MSB and Moffitt Separation Project has won a 2010 Excellence in Structural Engineering Award from The National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA). The awards will be handed out on October 2nd at the 16th Annual NCSEA Conference in Jersey City in New Jersey. At the event, one of the award winners in each category will be chosen as the “Outstanding Project.”
A bit of backround on the winning project…Degenkolb employed state-of-the-art analysis and designed a creative solution to seismically retrofit UCSF Medical Center, separating the two buildings (MSB and Moffitt Hospital), while allowing the buildings to remain fully occupied and operational during construction. Additionally, the large application of non-linear analysis and the torsional component that Degenkolb developed for the innovative static analysis procedure, called Modal Pushover Analysis (MPA), were among the noteworthy aspects of the project.
Congratulations to Degenkolb Principal, Ray Pugliesi, and the entire project team on their achievement!
