Monday, June 14, 2010 marked the reopening of Oakland's Fire Station No. 18! The Degenkolb team proudly made it out to the ribbon cutting ceremony. The station closed for renovation in April 2009 to accomodate newer model fire trucks, and reopened its doors to a new LEED Gold facility. Oakland's Fire Station No. 18 is the first facility in the fire department to be certified LEED Gold.

It's important to keep sustainability in mind both within Degenkolb as a company and within the projects that we take on. That's why Degenkolb has created both the Internal and External Sustainability committees. The committees have been active for some time.
The External Sustainability committee is dedicated to furthering green technologies and strategies. The aim of the committee is to further sustainable development and its relationship to PBD (performance based engineering) and seismic improvements by educating structural engineers, clients, ...

Congratulations to the College of Marin PE Complex project team! The project acheived LEED Gold certification by a healthy margin and even received "exemplary performance" on several credits. This rehabiliation and modernization project serves as an outstanding example of sustainable design.
