Jim Malley Now VP of Engineering, New Role for Chair Chris Poland
Degenkolb Engineers announced today that Stacy Bartoletti has been named Chief Executive Officer in addition to his position as President and Chief Operating Officer. At the same time, senior principal Jim Malley, president of the National Council of Structural Engineering Associations, was named Degenkolb’s Vice President of Engineering.

Seismic Engineering Innovation Hailed as World-Changing Idea
Senior Principal Jim Malley was quoted in Popular Mechanics' November issue in an article called, "The Earthquake-Proof Building That Is Built to Collapse." The article discusses the efforts led by Gregory Deierlein, a Stanford University civil and environmental engineer, and Jerry Hajjar, a Northeastern University engineer, to design an innovative seismic system that protects skyscrapers. This idea is being hailed by the magazine as one of the 20 bold ideas that will change the world!

Ceremony for VA Palo Alto Mental Health Facility
ABC 7 news reports on the new $54 million VA Palo Alto Mental Health Facility currently under construction. Degenkolb Principal, Kirk Johnston, is the Project Manager for the new project.
Senator Barbara Boxer attended the VA's ceremony yesterday, as the structure's final steel beam was installed. The need for this 80-bed, 80,000-square-foot psychiatric center is abundantly clear. Everyday, more and more soldiers return from Iraq and Afghanistan and need help with issues such as post-traumatic stress.

Portland Firestation Update Makes the News
The Daily Journal of Commerce reports that Firestation 1 occupants like the new light and the added seismic safety this upgraded building now brings. Principal, Kent Yu came up with a unique solution to stiffen the front of the building and weaken the back of the building so the building will move, but not twist in earthquake.
